Work in Norway while studying
Jente, 20
Hei. My Norwegian is not so good, so I'll write in English. And I'm not sure if I selected the right category (topic / subject) for my question, but I just try. The thing is that I applied for NIS (Norwegian International Studies). I wanna study Norwegian at university here in Norway now in August. I am from Romania. The thing is that I need a job to get money for house rent and food and other important things. I get scholarship, but it's not enough for all the important things. And I've looked for jobs at Finn.no and Nav.arbeidsplassen.no etc. and I've even applied on several places for job, but no luck. There are also many jobs that require that you speak Norwegian fluently. I've even tried to search for family that needs au pair, but I can only find families that are 300 - 1.160 kilometers away from the university I wanna study at. So what can I do now? Hi!
Thank you for your question. Unfortunately there is no quick fix for your situation. My suggestion is to keep searching for jobs. Some jobs in the service industry do not require that you speak Norwegian, so you can perhaps look for a job as waiter.
I don't know what your resume looks like, but here you can download a template for a resume.
Let me also note that it can be useful to show how your former experience ties into the job you are applying for in the job application. This allows the workplace to see whether you are a suitable candidate. Another idea is to visit various places with a resume and let them know you are looking for a job.
Good luck!
