Jente, 16
Hi im in vg1 and my school has an offer of taking my morsmål as a fremmedspråk if I’ve lived in Norway less that 6 years and my morsmål is Luganda can I still do that cause when i go on the udir website my language isn’t listed can i still take that or do i have to apply for my language to be recognised.cause went to complain to the person incharge of language he said my language isn’t on the site and he just put me in spanish but according to Trondelag kommune as a minority speaker in Norwegian i have a right to study my morsmål as my fremmedspråk

The Norwegian Directorate for Education and Training (Udir) have a list of foreign languages in Norway in which an exam is offered (information in Nortwegian). Unfortunately, Luganda isn’t on this list and therefore there’s not a exam available in that language.
This means that you don’t have the opportunity to take your mother tongue as “fremmedspråk” (foreign language) in high school (Upper sedcondary education).
You can contact Udir and ask for your language to be recognized, but I think that is a process that will take some time.
My advice is that you talk to one of the student advisors at your school to find out more about the rules and you have to decide which “fremmedsråpk” you want to have. The three most common are German, French or Spanish, but other options might be available and this is something the student advisor can inform you about.
Med vennlig hilsen
