Jente, 20

Hi i am breastfeeding my child and have started to get irregulr periods after every 2 weeks. I sometimes take desirett for a few weeks when we plan to have sex otherwise i dont and take it 2 days before having sex and leave after a few days after having sex. Is it safe? Also how to regulate my irregular periods?

Hi!

Congratulations with the baby!

When using Desirett, you should take the pill every day without a break. You are not protected in the way you describe.

Desirett is a progestagen contraceptive pill, which has the same high level of safety as regular contraceptive pills with estrogen. A disadvantage is irregular bleeding. It is most common in the first months after starting Desirett. Therefore, it is better for you and your body that you take the pill every day all the time. Then the body gets used to the hormones from the pills and the bleeding can decrease or occur much less frequently.

If the troublesome bleeding continues for a long time, you can switch to a birth control pill with estrogen when you have finished breastfeeding. They provide much better bleeding control. But I think you will experience less bleeding if you take the pill every day without a break.

Good luck!
