Thank you for writing to us!
I understand that you are worried about your friend. From what you are writing, I understand that your friend is struggling to accept his body and he is trying to eat as little as he can to control his weight.
You are such a good friend trying to help your friend with this. It is not easy to help a friend that doesn't think he needs help.
Your friend is eating to little. A 16 year old boy needs food that is properly composed with proteins, carbohydrates and fat. The body and the brain is developing very much at this age and food is essential in this development. The recommended amount of calories is 2200-2500 a day for youths.
I think it is important that your friend talkes to someone about this. He needs help to change the way he thinks about his body and weight. Many youths think it is Nice to talk to the public health nurse (helsesøster) at school. Helsesøster knows a lot about what is a good diet for youths in development. He or she also knows a lot about how to talk to youths so they can think better about them selves.
I have added some articles that can be useful for him to read. Unfortunately they are in Norwegian. Pass them on to him and ask him to read them.
I hope this is helpful to you!
Vennlig hilsen helsesøster
