How do I get diagnosed?

It sounds like you are experiencing some difficulties that you would like help with, and the fact that you feel too scared to talk about it or speak up can sometimes also be part of what you are struggling with.

In order to get an assessment, you need to be seen by your GP or a psychologist who can refer you to BUP (Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services). Since you’re under 16 years old, your parents or guardians must also be informed and give consent for you to be referred to BUP.

BUP will then assess whether you are entitled to an evaluation there, and if so, they will invite you to conversations and sessions to figure out what kind of help is best for you.

Sometimes an assessment at BUP is not needed. Instead, help can be provided through other services, such as a municipal mental health team for children and young people (PHBU), or through the school health nurse. These services can also be very helpful.

The first step would usually be to talk to your parents, and then contact your GP together. If that feels too difficult, you can start by talking to the school nurse. I know this can be very difficult, but you don’t have to tell everything right away. Some people find it easier to take this step by bringin a friend for support, og by showing something written, like the message you wrote here.
