My discharge has brown dark red spots, what should I do?

Hi, my discharge has like brown/dark red spots in it, like when its your last period day so theres mostly just old blood coming out? I have that but the thing is im not on my period, im on day 30 in my phase and its been like this for almost two weeks now. Is this normal? If not how do i get it checked out?

Brown or dark red spotting in discharge is usually old blood. It can happen for several different reasons.

Most of the causes are harmless, like light spotting around ovulation or hormonal fluctuations. But since you've had this for almost two weeks, it's a godd idea to get it checked.

Irregular spotting can happen with:

Hormonal changes or delayed ovulation

Stress or illness

Starting or stopping birth control

Cervical irritation

Infection like sexual transmitted infections.

How to get it checked:

Contact your doctor, ask the public health nurse or visist "helsestasjon for ungdom", and explain the symptoms just like you wrote here.

They will decide what kind og exams you will need depending on your situation.

If you develop pain, fever, heavy bleeding, or feel unwell, you should seek help sooner.
